  •  Building Enclosure Testing (BET)
  •  Building Systems Commissioning (BSC)
  •  Cleanroom Performance Testing (CPT)
  •  Fume Hood Testing (FHT)
  •  Sound Measurement and Vibration Measurement (S&V)
  •  Technical Retro-Commissioning for Existing Buildings (RCx)
  •  Testing, Adjusting and Balancing of Environmental Systems (TAB)
Exam Development Tasks

Selected SMEs will be invited to participate in one or more of the following exam development activities:

Job Analysis: A job analysis is the scientific study of a particular profession to delineate key essential job duties needed to demonstrate competence. One of the most rigorous activities for SMEs, a job analysis requires 10-15 SMEs to come together as a focus group for several meetings—either in person or via webinar--to agree upon the final essential job duties. Webinars each last 1-2 hours during business hours, usually weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm eastern.

Item Writing: SMEs are asked to write reference-supported questions for inclusion on an exam. Another rigorous SME activity, item writing is mostly conducted on your own after initial training but can be completed remotely or during an in-person meeting. Creativity, critical thinking, and adherence to deadlines are essential to this task. Training is conducted via webinar and lasts one hour during business hours, usually weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm eastern.

Item Review: After exam questions are written, they need to be reviewed by a separate group of SMEs for accuracy and relevancy to the exam. Item reviews are conducted via webinars, each lasting 1-2 hours during business hours, usually weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm eastern.

Form Review: SMEs are asked to review a draft form of an exam before it is administered to candidates. As part of the form review, SMEs are asked to review the exam form to ensure it matches the exam specifications, has no duplicative content, and that no question answers another. Form reviews are conducted via webinar lasting 1-2 hours during business hours, usually weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm eastern.

Cut Score Study: A cut score study is the scientific process used to determine the passing point for an exam. SMEs are asked to review a final draft of an exam form and rate the difficulty of each exam item. Although not necessary, a basic understanding of statistical analysis is useful during a cut score study. Cut score studies are completed via webinar lasting 1-2 hours during business hours, usually weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm eastern.
